Selecting a sink vanity
Do you often get hung up on selecting a new sink vanity for your renovation or remodel project? With so many options on the market, we understand how you can go round-and-round in a search for something just right. These are a few of the things we like to focus on as we search for the perfect project-specific vanity.
01 - Storage Options
In my own home, I like everything to be tucked away (particularly in the bathroom). In a larger home with more closets, this probably wouldn’t be the case but I live in a rental. When considering a product with a storage component I often suggest you ask yourself - What are you storing in there? Are you placing extra toilet paper rolls or all your bath toiletries, cleaning products, etc? If you’re storing the types of things your guest don’t need to see, then selecting a vanity with a cabinet is definitely the way to go.
Was it the material or the design style?
I don’t remember what stood out about this vanity, but finding this fixture was just the starting point for a few design concepts we explored.
02- Design Style
Determine the aesthetic you are going for. Do you like the minimal floating look or something with a simple pedestal base? Are metal accents important or do you favor a traditional casework look? Aesthetic is all about personal preference. Stick to your gut and go with what you like. Don’t forget to focus on the faucet style too! This helps to further emphasize the style of the sink vanity as a whole unit - sink basin, faucet, and vanity!
03-Materiality & Cost
Sometimes, we are surprised when a really nice vanity is shockingly affordable. But why is there such a price difference between two very similar products? With items that are harder to replace, I always error on selecting a product that has some recognition and authenticity. If I’m looking around on the internet, I often check out all the product details. Is the sink basin acrylic or porcelain? Is the frame aluminum or steel? If a manufacture doesn’t disclose information about the materials they use, I won’t specify their product. And if you feel comfortable, you can always risk it and use reviews as a source of authenticity.
In a small bathroom, the possibilities aren’t endless, just more restrained.
Selecting the correct sink vanity played a big role in an upgraded aesthetic and function for this one-bedroom condo in Oakland.
