Bunk Beds - good, better, best

Are you exploring the idea of buying a bunk bed for your room? While pricing can play a huge role in aesthetics, sometimes functionality and flexibility are equally important factors.

How to find the perfect bunk bed to fit your design style and budget

The Good

space savings & functionality

In our search for bunk beds, we came across the standard ladder-type or convertible stacking type. Ladder-style bunks either kick-stand out into the room or attach vertically to the frame. These are pretty traditional and do the job well. One new design we found was the stacking bunk. I haven’t had to specify a bunk bed in a while so these were not even on my radar. Who would have thought that simply designing stacking beds was going to catch on in the market place?

The Better

the multipurpose bunk bed

Let flexibility be the deciding factor in this category! Whether flexibility means use type or additional sleeping units, determining what is most important is key. If you have two kids - who like to have sleepovers, a built-in roll-out cot maybe just the bed your need. Or if you have an only child, like Nikhil, then a booth-style bottom bunk is perfect for those weekends where sleepovers aren’t happening.

The Best

functional, yet beautiful

Materiality and aesthetics working hand-in-hand with function to create a stunning piece of furniture. If your budget doesn’t account for a custom-designed, bunk bed millwork piece, fret not, there are other options out there. Some of the beds we found even added convertible elements where the bunk bed configuration could transform into two individual free-standing beds. Talk about longevity! Imagine not having to share a room with your older sibling without having to get a new bed for your kids.
