DIY vs traditional design

We understand the passion and drive of the do-it-yourself mindset. I am a maker who loves to DIY everything possible. Sometimes when your design project is a bit more than you can handle, the right step is to often work with an architect or contractor to realize your dream. But not all architects and contractors are designers.

Why work with an interior designer?

Have you heard that saying the devil is in the details? Well as an interior architectural designer, I live and breathe details (especially as it regards the built environment). We focus on providing people-oriented design solutions that analyze how your space is working for you vs the other way around. Although functionality isn’t everything, aesthetics plays a huge role in regards to comfort. A comfortable space is one you will want to spend all day in. That is what I mean by people-oriented.

Measuring

Are you handy with a tape measure? This is going to be your new best friend for the life of your project. You should feel comfortable measuring your existing space before tackling any modifications. We strongly believe in that other saying “Cut once, measure twice”

Analysis

Can you easily locate your power sources? Have you balanced out the pros & cons of each solution? Have you cross-referenced your timeline and budget?

Try, and try again

If you learning on the job, mistakes happen. If you don’t calculate or measure properly, don’t be surprised if you are short on materials or have to redo a whole portion of a wall. Redoing or starting something over goes hand-in-hand with the DIY mentality. It can be frustrating but remember you choose the DIY process for a reason.

Don’t Forget!

Create a full-picture plan & design strategy.

Avoid costly mistakes by creating a full-picture plan that serves as a map to execute your project. Think about what the finish line looks like from the beginning of the process and there won’t be any unexpected surprises (hopefully).
